

ABOUT
Katie Bates, M.S, LPCC, is the founder and owner of the North County Counseling and Performance Center. She received her Master's of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2019.
During her time at KU, Katie supported student-athlete development and well-being through academic and career counseling for the KU Football team and Olympic Sport student-athletes.

Since graduating in 2019, Katie has worked as a Clinical Therapist in private practice. In that role, she has worked with a variety of clients including high school and collegiate student-athletes, Olympic Sport athletes, and teens and adults struggling with stage of life challenges.

Katie utilizes a trauma-informed approach in working with her clients. Her clinical and research background include expertise in positive psychology, men and masculinities, feminist theory, and sport psychology. Additionally, Katie has successfully supported numerous clients who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Katie is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. She is currently working towards certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology.

Individual Therapy
Katie works to understand her clients' unique lived experiences and asks questions that allow them to examine their experiences in a new and insightful way. She provides a trauma-informed and non-judgmental space to explore what is most meaningful to them.
It can be scary, uncomfortable, and difficult to do this work in therapy and Katie strongly believes that this kind of work can provide opportunity for personal growth, more meaningful relationships, and skills to cope with stress.

Sport Psychology
Sport psychology is a specialized field that focuses on the mental and emotional aspects of athletic performance and physical activity. It involves the study and application of psychological principles and techniques to help athletes and sports professionals improve their performance, manage stress, and achieve their goals. Specifically, Katie works to support performance, resilience, recovery from injury, stress management, and team dynamics of high-school, collegiate, and Olympic level athletes.

Career Counseling
For clients seeking career counseling services, Katie offers various approaches to aid in career and stage-of-life transitions. Career counseling includes assessing an individual's skills, interests, values, and personality traits to guide them toward a fulfilling and successful career. Additionally, Katie guides clients through the processes of self and world exploration, goal setting, skill development, job searching, interview preparation, personal growth, and work-life balance.
